My name is William Tooth and Night Flight To Nashville is my first album. It was recorded over the course of a year at the Barrel House Ballroom in Totnes, Devon during the lockdowns in 2020-2021. The album was produced and engineered by Jimi Stewart (also on guitars and backing vocals) and Tommy Williams (all keys) of Sorting Room Studios, with the inestimable Preston Prince on drums.

Like many people the Covid lockdowns gave me pause to think and, with this fantastic venue available and my workload drastically reduced, it seemed the perfect time to make a country rock album. I write a lot in all sorts of different genres - it could have been a funk album, or electronic, or piano bar but these songs - most written by me, with lyrics on three tracks by James Toler - happened to fit together rather nicely.

Still they needed a consistent sound. I asked Jimi and Tommy to bring a sense of musical coherence to the project, something that would feel quite timeless, tasteful but still contemporary.

There’s a heavy nod toward country music throughout – but being a long way geographically and culturally from “the source”, this is our own take, offered respectfully and with love. It’s a dream of Nashville, an evocation of what could be: a place where dreams come true.
